Be the Light That You Are

When confronted with a dark world, most believers fall into one of three groups.

The first group that I see is the group that watches the world and does what it does. This group puts culture ahead of Christ and accept the world’s ways without ever pointing out that God’s word says differently. People of this group are in danger of extinguishing the light of God in themselves. Paul warns us of this in Romans 1:28 when he writes, “just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.”

God will give them over to a depraved mind. He will remove their light. He will take the Holy Spirit away from them.

The second group I see is the group that decides to hide from the world to prevent themselves from being contaminated by the dark. This group rejects the world and the sinners in it. They don’t let their light shine before others because they aren’t around darkness enough for their light to shine. This group fills their life with all things Christian and remove themselves from anything and anyone that is still in darkness.

The third group doesn’t accept the world’s culture as acceptable for children of light nor does it hide away from it. The third group allows themselves to be God’s tool for the redemption of the world. This group allows God to bend them into being Christ. Christ sat down and ate with sinners without sinning. Christ never rejected the world; he came to save the world. Jesus went outside the camp into the darkness to redeem them with the light of the gospel and loved one, we must do the same. We must follow Jesus.
