All in-person activities at Druid Hills are canceled. Please read the following letter for more details.

Dear Friends,

I greet you in the strong name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Wesleyan tradition is based on 3 Simple Rules:
Do no harm. Do good. Stay in love with God.
It provides wisdom amidst these uncertain times.

The Leadership Team and Brother Jonathan are closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation regarding the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, which puts the greatest risk on public gatherings. Today, both President Donald Trump and Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves released guidelines that recommended discontinuing gatherings of ten or more people for fifteen days. This is why, effective immediately, we will suspend in-person worship during the outbreak and move to online worship only, through Facebook Live on the Druid Hills UMC Facebook page. We will also discontinue Wednesday Bible study during this time with a devotional offered on Facebook Live on Wednesday afternoon. We have a tentative date of April 5th for resuming normal activities, however this will be reevaluated the week prior to ensure that the time is right to resume a normal schedule.

Our primary concern is for your health and safety. We believe it is more important to act now than to react later. This is the best way to love and protect our church family and community. While COVID-19 is spread much like the seasonal flu, its complications are more severe for those in the older population and those with chronic diseases of the heart, lung, and immune system.

We are still open for ministry, but in a different way. How we do ministry will change and the need for Christ’s hands and feet may increase. Volunteer opportunities may increase.
-Wesley House is seeing an increase in need with their food assistance program, including providing sack lunches for students.
-Those who are isolated will need more outreach.
This also means that your financial gifts/offerings are even more necessary to meet the changing needs of our community under crises! You may also set up a “bill pay” option with your bank. We are also in the process of implementing an electronic giving option (details on this option will be shared as soon as possible) and you may also mail your check to the church (3565 State Blvd. Meridian, MS 38307). The mail will be checked daily so your check will be safe.
Pastoral care will continue will be by phone instead of an in person visit. The office will not be open to the general public.
Please be aware of the health guidelines around volunteering & caring for one another.

Worship will continue. On Sundays, at 11 am, we will offer worship through Facebook Live. and because it’s Facebook, you will have an opportunity to post comments and questions making this a more interactive experience. Worship will likely look different from what we’re used to as the community of faith, but we will still be having it!

For those without computers or other device to access the Internet, it is both a challenge and an opportunity. This is where the church can be the church. While large gatherings are discouraged, small home gatherings under 5 people are still considered safe and can provide the worship experience while you hear the message together.
Please consider hosting a few people together in your home.

Wednesday afternoon Bible study will also be suspended until further notice. A devotional video will be posted to the Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon.

I know that change can be difficult, but these changes are necessary for everyone’s safety. We are counting on your support, and compassion for one another to get us through these unprecedented times.

I know you and your gifts. You are an amazing group of generous and faithful people who rise to meet the challenges in life and overcome it. Christ is within you.

Remember, as the Rev. John Wesley said, ‘Best of all Christ is with us’
